I am not really sure how to describe The Book of Spells yet, maybe Harry Potter meets Charmed? Except there’s no demons, it’s more like a female driven magic series.

One of the things that currently bothers me the most about modern YA fantasy is this downward trend of romanticizing abuse, including physical, mental and emotional abuse as something that is okay or sexy even. As someone who was emotionally manipulated and abused by someone I loved, it was one of the most painful experiences in my life, and I think it is both very damaging and irresponsible to promote this kind of messaging towards young women and girls who lack experience with men who act like this in the real world. As any abuse survivor knows, no amount of love from you can change an abuser. They have to choose to accept reality and to work on themselves, which very, very few of them actually do. And even if they do it still may not make you compatible. So as I have gotten older I try to be more conscious with my writing as I have become more wiser and have grown as a person and I hope to continue to do so.
